Sometimes in life, you give something your best shot, and sometimes that’s still not enough. And that’s just the way it goes. You’re not going to be good at everything you try, and—heck, who is good at something on the first try anyway? Being good at something isn’t always what it’s about, which is something that we tend to forget in this era of side hustling and generally monitoring and capitalizing on everything we do.

As Kurt Vonnegut was (supposedly)  told, by his (supposed) own account, when he was 15 years old, "I don’t think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think you’ve got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them."

And those are some words to live by. Of course, there are times when being good at something is important; those times tend to occur when safety is of concern… especially when you’re endangering other people’s safety along with your own. Yeah, doing and trying different things makes you an interesting person, but like the people in the collection of posts below, it might not be for the reasons you’re expecting. These posts were gathered (mostly) from a popular online community in which users share various different hacks, bodges, and other DIY monstrosities they’ve seen online and in real life that are "mint" as long as you "squint."
